Since 1974 the Boys & Girls Club has been providing opportunities for the youth of Lee County. As a charter member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America we have access to national programs, staff training, board development and funding opportunities. In 1999 the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County changed leadership and began a new era in service to the at-risk youth of Lee County. Under the guidance of Board, leadership, staff, and community a strategy was implemented to reach the youth that need us the most. Partnerships were formed with the City of Fort Myers, Lee County Parks and Recreation, State of Florida Department of Education, the School District of Lee County, and the United Way. These collaborations allowed the Club to serve youth in communities where no other services were available.
Today the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County operates 7 sites for 1,800 youth. These sites are located in communities were kids need a safe place to learn, explore, and be guided by positive adults. The Club operates afterschool programs for youth 6-18 years old. Statistics show most youth related crime happens between 3pm – 7pm. The reason being kids have nothing positive to do. The Club offers that positive experience. During the summer months, a full-time Summer Enrichment Program is offered to Club members.
