Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County Thanks Sponsors and Volunteers for Club Renovation
FORT MYERS, FL (July 13, 2015) – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County (BGCLC) held a luncheon on July 11th , 2015 to express its gratitude to Comcast, Coca-Cola, Sherwin Williams, Total Electric, and Graybar with special awards for the renovation of the Shady Oaks Boys & Girls Club. These partners with a few volunteers cleaned, painted, removed old furniture, installed new lights, built an art space, computer lab, and gaming zone for the Shady Oaks Clubs members back on April 15th.
The Clubs after school regime have a five core program curriculum, covering academics, character building, leadership, arts, sports and fitness, and healthy lifestyles. BGCLC’s most utilized program is Power Hour, which provides homework help and tutoring. During the summer, the most utilized time is Brain Gain, which helps prevent the summer learning loss that contributes to the alarming achievement gap between low and high-income youth.
Lane concluded the luncheon by inviting the organizations to “help the establishment of four new Clubs in Lee County.” She added, “Apart from these renovations for existing Clubs, with your help, our goal over the next couple of years is to establish four new Clubs in different cities around Lee County. They make it possible to avoid risky behaviors while keeping kids safe and off the streets where crime can happen. I share this because this is what community involvement is all about – individuals, businesses like yours, that enable our youth to thrive and flourish, while they may not see their potential elsewhere.”
